Things To Do in Key West in August

August. The dog days of summer. In Key West that means temperatures in the upper 80s, no breeze, and lots of sunshine. It’s a time of year when getting on the water is essential to staying cool. And it’s an ideal time to enjoy summer without the crowds and take advantage of great savings on resorts and hotels. There’s also a few fun August events peppered into the schedule. Here’s our list of things to do in Key West for the month of August.

Fury Water Adventure’s Local’s Eco Tour- The great thing about summer and August in Key West is that water conditions are absolutely ideal. The water is flat and still as glass because the winds are calm, and that results in amazing visibility at the reef. One of the best ways to take advantage of these tranquil conditions on the water is on Fury Water Adventure’s Local’s Eco Tour Eco Tour. This four and a half hour trip is offered twice daily and includes snorkeling at secret spots along the reef, kayaking through mangroves, and relaxing on a sandbar beach in the middle of the ocean. The trip is a little different every day depending on water conditions and the captain’s choice on where to explore. You’ll spot migratory birds, dolphins, and other marine life, and learn about Key West’s unique ecosystem as you experience it.

Lobster Season & Lobsterfest- Who doesn’t love the idea of feasting on lobster? And what about a festival dedicated to those delicious crustaceans. Key West lobsters are different from Maine lobsters with claws that you might be familiar with. In Key West, our lobsters don’t have claws, but they have antennas, and they’re often referred to as “spiny lobsters.” This year’s festivities take place August 8-11 in conjunction with the opening of lobster season. Take to the streets of Duval as local restaurants participate in a street fair with live concerts, and of course, plenty of lobster to snack on! There’s also a lobster boil party and a decadent Sunday brunch. Whether you’re here on the hunt for lobster or just want to delight in its delicious flavors, this is a Key West event in August that’s not to be missed.

Key West Brewfest- Do you love the suds? Then make sure you’re in Key West during the annual Key West Brewfest over Labor Day Weekend August 29-September 2. Over 150 beers and micro-brews will be on tap across the island for this annual beer-lovers event. The Southernmost Hotel Collection teams up with the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club of the Conch Republic to raise money for their charitable efforts throughout the community. So come to Key West in August and drink beer for a good cause. Events include beer dinners, beer brunches, pool parties, seminars, and the signature tasting festival event.
