One of the most charming (and affordable) housing options when vacationing in Key West is to stay at a Bed & Breakfast. The island is packed with these cozy, historic homes with lots of local color. While they might lack the amenities of the larger resorts, like a swimming pool or an exercise room (although many have both), they make up for it in character and by allowing you to live like a local. And in Key West, that’s a pretty great thing. Many of them include bike rentals in your stay and even passes to Fort Zachary State Park & Beach. Here’s a few of our faves.
Southernmost House At the far end of Duval Street overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Southernmost House is the ultimate bed and breakfast experience. The historic home is all pink and sea foam Victorian manse and it’s got one of the best pools on the island. The zero-entry pool overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and has a great little bar with a lively, yet relaxed scene. The rooms are all unique and quite lavish with a lot of historic charm.
Blue Bottle Inn This little bed and breakfast on Southard Street might just inspire you to move to Key West. Positioned squarely in an idyllic residential part of town, the wraparound porch and balcony offers the perfect place to while away a morning with fresh-baked banana bread, fresh jam, coffee and other tasty breakfast treats. While there’s no pool here, you’ll enjoy the homey island atmosphere and the hospitality.

The Banyan Resort Situated ideally one block off Duval Street and a hop skip and a jump to Mallory Square, this hideaway with a giant Banyan tree growing in the front yard, is the perfect escape. Your family will enjoy two swimming pools shaded by lush tropical foliage in this Green Certified Lodging. Most rooms include a full kitchen for all the comforts of home.
Lighthouse Court Inn Across the street from the Hemingway House and next to Key West’s actual lighthouse, the Lighthouse Court Inn has a lot of history surrounding it. It’s also got a delicious poolside breakfast. Enjoy eggs benedict and potatoes with a mimosa as you make your plans for the day. The rooms are comfortable and tasteful, too.
Ambrosia Key West Not to be confused with one of the most delicious restaurants on the island also called Ambrosia, Ambrosia Guest House offers a comfortable bed and breakfast experience just off Duval on Fleming Street. Breakfast is served daily in the poolside courtyard and there’s plenty of delicious options to choose from. The rooms are reminiscent of a tropical cottage and there’s even larger properties available to rent across the street from the main resort.
