Planning A Romantic Weekend in Key West

There’s nothing like summertime for a romantic weekend in Key West. That humid salt air breeze beckons you to take a dip in the pool, nap in a hammock, and revel at the sunset. There are many romantic retreats in Key West, from charming bed and breakfasts to secluded oceanfront resorts, like the Hyatt Key West Resort & Spa, or even a private island. Sunset Key Guest Cottages, just a short 15 minute ferry ride from the Margaritaville Resort & Marina, is perhaps the most secluded, romantic escape there is in Key West. Here’s a few romantic things to do during your weekend getaway to Key West.

Day One

Morning- Breakfast in bed. Why not? You’re on vacation. If you’re at Sunset Key, order room service and enjoy on your private patio or at the beach. A ferry ride across the harbor brings you to the Bistro at the Margaritaville Resort & Marina serving an incredible breakfast buffet overlooking the water. For something hidden off the beaten path, head to Petronia Street in the heart of Bahama Village.Try La Creperie for a cafe au lait and a proscuitto, egg, and swiss cheese crepe with sautéed tomatoes in herbs de Provence. For dessert? A nutella, strawberry, and banana crepe, of course! While you’re in Bahama Village, duck into Besame Mucho for a little shopping. The name of the boutique says it all!

Afternoon- Explore the charming twists and turns of Old Town on bicycles. You can set up rentals with your hotel concierge or from popular rental spots, like Eaton Street Bicycles. Grab a map or just go wherever the wind takes you. It’s hard to get lost on an island that’s only eight square-miles. Want to get really romantic? Rent a bicycle built for two! Yes, they have those.

Evening- Get offshore for a sunset sail. Whether it’s a romantic tall ship schooner, a rocking live music sunset sail, or a snorkeling and sunset sail combo package, there’s a sunset sail for every couple. Most trips include a champagne toast as the sun sinks into the horizon. When you get back to shore, do a little bar hopping on Duval Street until it’s time for bed.

Day Two

Morning- Picnic at the beach. Swing by Fisherman’s Cafe and order two Sunrise Specials, a cafe con leche and Cuban breakfast sandwiches. They’ve also got fresh Florida orange juice perfect for the morning. Then, head to Fort Zachary Taylor Beach and State Park for a breakfast picnic on the beach. The view of the Atlantic Ocean due south through the Australian pines is one of the prettiest in Key West.

Afternoon- It’s time for a couple’s massage. Take your pick from the spa at Sunset Key, Ocean Key House, or the Hyatt for an exceptional experience. Make time to enjoy the amenities together and take a dip in the pool.

Evening- Dessert at Better Than Sex. Yes, there’s a dessert restaurant on the island that purports to be, well, better than sex. With a new location on the corner of Truman and Simonton Street, their signature desserts have cheeky names, like Tongue Bath Truffle, Peanut Butter Perversion, and Between My Red Velvet Sheets Cheesecake. In addition to desserts, they serve wine in glasses dipped with chocolate for a truly indulgent and romantic experience.
